MLG CS:GO Major Championship: Columbus

It’s been a while since we’ve seen ReDeYe hosting a CS:GO event, but that is all about to change with the announcement that he will be headlining the MLG Counter-Strike:Global Offensive Major Championship: Columbus. MLG will be hosting the first North American CS:GO Major at the MLG Arena and the Nationwide Arena from March 29 – April 3. 16 teams from across the globe will be competing for a shot at the $250,000 prize pool.  The group stages will take place at the MLG Arena and will whittle down the competition for the Quarterfinals that start in the Nationwide Arena on April 1.

This Major will feature the top 8 teams from DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca alongside 8 teams determined by an offline qualifier. Recent form suggests that Fnatic and Natus Vincere are evenly matched with both teams securing 80% win rates during matches at the start of 2016.  Fnatic started the year strongly after securing a win at the StarLadder finals and continue to show good form. Despite Navi failing to win the top spot at the StarLadder Finals, finishing as runners-up, they redeemed themselves by winning Dreamhack Leipzig and continue to be a force to be reckoned with.

Virtus. Pro have been on a downward spiral recently, failing to make an impact at Dreamhack Leipzig amid a slew of inconsistent results. Likewise, Team EnVyUs and Luminosity Gaming have had mixed results recently. This could be an opportunity for all 3 teams to gain some momentum back and turn results around.

At this point in the year, it’s difficult to speculate who will reign supreme with ESL Pro League Season 3 and IEM Katowice between now and the MLG Major Championship. However, ReDeYe will be there to guide you through the highs and lows of what will no doubt be an electric Major Championship.
